Select a Company Name and establish a Domain Name

Objective:Create a company name and ensure that you can register the name on the Internet.

  • Instructions
    In this exercise, you will select your company, define its product or service, and ensure that you can register the name on the Internet.
    1. Select a company name.
    2. Check to see that the domain name is available by going to the Network Solutions Web page.
    3. Enter http://www.networksolutions.com.
    4. Enter your newly created company name in the space provided.
    5. Click the Search button to begin the lookup.
    6. If your query results exhibit a previous registration, you must continue your search.
    7. Enter a new company name or an easily recognizable derivative of your company name.
    8. Repeat steps 5-8 until you find a company name you can register as a domain.

Once you have determined a company name or a derivative of your company's name that can be used as a domain name, you can choose to register the domain. For the purposes of this exercise, it is not necessary to register a domain name unless it is one you wish to purchase and use. When you have completed this exercise, click Submit.
